Overview

Ecclesbourne Castle was founded durring the early 12th century in summer of the year 1145, by Cichlinos Cruddas. The establishment of Ecclesbourne Castle was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding Ecclesbourne Castle's construction back out of the project. Cichlinos Cruddas pushed on reguardles, and Ecclesbourne Castle was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

Ecclesbourne Castle was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Ecclesbourne Castle is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Ecclesbourne Castle is buildings are arranged arround a single broad paverstone mainstreet with many smaller streets branching off of it which gives the city a over all rectangular shape, albit one warped and twisted by the nature of the curves of the main road. The city is protected by a well-crafted cobblestone fence tall enough to provide adiquite cover for defenders to fire from, but no more than that. Unfortuantly, these frontieer-style defences are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

Ecclesbourne Castle is not quite well. Something happened here, perhapse recently, perhapse long ago. Whatever it was, it settled into the very soul of the city like a festering wound. The people go about their day well enough, but there’s a tention in the air you can cut with a knife.

History

Ecclesbourne Castle is still bloodied by a recent violent conflict. A crushing bandit raid, a lost siege, getting caught at the periphery of a major battle, or some other calamity has inflicted severe damage on the place. Some communities may suffer a longer-term version of this, their youths lost in a grinding, endless battle against some perpetual threat.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Ecclesbourne Castle was attacked by soldiers from another nation, waging a greater campaign. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Ecclesbourne Castle lost 208 people, 315 livestock, and 64 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 184, when members of Ecclesbourne Castle's militia enacted an operation to delay the operations of the enemy. The operation was complicated by enemy spies who revealed the militia's plan. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in a stalemate for Ecclesbourne Castle's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Ecclesbourne Castle's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
